Peel Ginger with a Spoon (Zero Waste)
A spoon follows ginger bumpy contours better than any peeler, removing only the thinnest layer of skin.

Why a Spoon
Ginger is knobbly and full of crevices. A vegetable peeler or knife removes too much flesh. The edge of a spoon scrapes off just the paper-thin skin.
How
- 1Hold the ginger firmly in one hand.
- 2Using the edge of a teaspoon, scrape against the skin.
- 3For tight nooks, use the tip of the spoon.
- 4Works on fresh ginger of any shape.
Extra Tips
- 1Store unpeeled ginger in the freezer — it grates more easily when frozen.
- 2Frozen ginger can be grated directly with a microplane, skin and all.
- 3The skin is perfectly edible, just slightly fibrous.
